Motor Vehicle Records

Expunging Motor Vehicle Records is usually not possible because motor vehicle violations are treated as traffic violations under Title 39 of the New Jersey Statutes, not under Title 2C-- which is the criminal code.

However, there are some Title 39 violations that could result in disorderly person or petty disorderly persons convictions. It is possible to expunge these convictions because they involve treatment of the convicted person in a manner similar to a person who has been convicted as a disorderly/petty disorderly person under the criminal code.

Additionally, a DWI/DUI conviction may not be expunged for the same reasons as any other traffic offense. However, if you were convicted of criminal acts directly related to the DWI/DUI, it may be possible to expunge the DWI/DUI records as part of that expungement for the related criminal acts.
